What is Optiphen Plus?
Otiphen plus is a clear liquid broad spectrum preservative. It is made up of a blend of phenoxyethanol and sorbic acid in an emollient base of caprylyl glycol.
This combination of ingredients provides protection against bacteria, yeast, fungi and mold.
It is not a 100% natural preservative due to the phenoxyethanol content. However, it is considered to be a great more natural alternative to other liquid preservatives.
Optiphen plus is suitable for vegans and vegetarians and is palm oil free.
What Can Optiphen Plus Be Used For?
Optiphen plus can be used to preserve a diverse range of personal care products like lotions, creams, serums and shampoo bars.
It is soluble in glycerin or alcohol (including isopropyl alcohol) and it is insoluble in water. Optiphen works best in a pH of below 6 and its usage rates are between 0.75%–1.5%.
Optiphen plus has a relatively high heat tolerance of 80°C. It is still recommended to add it to the cool down phase of formulations to ensure it is not heated too much.
